why i like japan
It's not as if I am feeling compelled to defend my stance on liking Japan. I just wanted to do something.
Why Japan and Not Korea?
I am Korean. So, why the infatuation with Japan? Well, let me change my viewpoint a bit. As an American, Japan's influence on me is pretty large. All of those electronics and video games and stuff like that (all of which I love, by the way) doesn't creep by unnoticed. I am not infatuated with Korea because it's relationship with my home country is not as large. I am, however, interested in it because of my adoption. I plan on learning Korean someday, and living there for some amount of time. I think I should do that when I'm more 'mature' though.
So, why Japan?
Anime was a fascination at first. It was one of those things I was ultra-obsessed with just because it was not widely known outside my small circle. It was fun to go to AnimeIowa and have a few people there, but not many. It was fun finding that common bond with people. It was surprising. Nowadays, everybody and their brother knows about anime. I don't know what my secret thing that I love is these days... maybe HK films or something along those lines. I have a lot of varied tastes. Then, it was Japanese class in high school. I took it initially because of my anime hobby. Then, that took a backseat to the general wackiness and how fun the class was. Japanese is a fun language, too, and it's pretty cool to be able to read katakana and hiragana. It impresses people. It's fun.
